Job Openings

We are hiring! We are currently looking for an electrical engineer. Please read the corresponding job description below:

Theta Engineering is an engineering consulting company. It does not produce products of its own but rather helps other companies with the development of their products. The ideal candidate for this opportunity will have the following attributes:
• Passionate about technology
• Has a high level of creativity in solving technical problems
• Has the desire to help people
• Keen interest in learning new things
For someone with that mix of ingredients, the consulting business is much superior to working a 9-to-5 job at a single company. One gets to span a much broader swath of technology, focus much more on technical issues rather than getting bogged down in the day-to-day noise that in-house employees invariably get saddled with, and one gets to help customers' businesses by solving their technical problems. In the consulting business, you're always learning new things. You are not limited to the technology of any one company's particular product line.

Responsibilities:
As an entry-level staff member, you will participate in the design of embedded devices ranging from the simplest “blinking LED” applications to sophisticated instruments demanding the utmost in performance. As your knowledge and skills rapidly grow, your responsibilities will expand accordingly until you are able to author your own designs.

You will interface with customers to understand their requirements and objectives. Circuit design, schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer are required. You will oversee outside vendors in the fabrication and assembly of prototype circuit boards. You will be responsible for testing, troubleshooting and debugging electronic circuits. You will do bench work as needed for repair and rework of prototype circuit boards. This includes providing hardware support for firmware developers. You will need to be able to read and write C code in order to support hardware testing and design verification.

Will train, but it takes someone with good aptitude and the right attitude to be able to absorb the training at the rate necessary for commercial success in this business!

Technical requirements:
• Sound grasp of basic DC and AC electronic circuit theory
• Able to understand and apply technical specifications in manufacturers’ data sheets for electronic components in the design, verification and troubleshooting of circuits
• Ability to design viable circuits based on electronics theory principles and manufacturers’ data
• Able to render circuit designs as schematics
• Some schematic/PCB layout experience with Altium Designer
• Able to read and write C code
• Able to operate traditional electronics instruments such as meters, oscilloscopes and logic analyzers

Technical pluses:
• Familiarity with Microchip development tools

Skills:
• Good communication skills: able to both assimilate and express complex technical concepts.

What you will experience:
• Participation in the process of product development from initial customer contact to delivery of functioning prototypes and release of the design to manufacturing.
• The satisfaction of seeing the immediate results of your work without a lot of bureaucracy or overhead.
• The mentoring of experienced engineers as your knowledge and skills rapidly expand.

This is a full-time position but hours are flexible. Please reply to this ad with your resume for further consideration.

• Location: Costa Mesa, CA
• Compensation: $10/hour during training, $20-$40/hr for billable hours depending on skill level
• Principals only. No recruiters please.
